Law enforcement report

¢ Lawrence police arrested three men at 11:28 p.m. Saturday in the 700 block of New Hampshire Street after discovering several suspected illegal substances in their possession.

An officer on patrol in the area saw a plastic bag containing green vegetation consistent with marijuana inside a vehicle parked in a city lot.

Officers made contact with one of the suspects and he accompanied officers to the vehicle, where police recovered a Glock 27 .40-caliber handgun and several plastic bags containing substances that appeared to be crack cocaine, marijuana and another drug.

A 26-year-old Atchison man was arrested on three out-of-county warrants. A 31-year-old Atchison man was arrested on charges of possession with intent to sell narcotics, no drug tax stamp, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and criminal possession of a firearm. A 26-year-old Chicago man was arrested for possession of marijuana.

¢ Lawrence police arrested a 53-year-old man who reportedly was exposing himself around 9:19 p.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of Massachusetts Street.

Police were called to a disturbance in the area where multiple subjects were yelling at people and one subject was trying to open vehicle doors. Police saw the suspect kicking the passenger side doors of a 2005 Kia Optima parked near 10th and Massachusetts streets.

The 23-year-old owner of the vehicle confirmed the damage was new. A 32-year-old witness said he saw the suspect yell profanities at people, pull down his jeans and expose himself. The 53-year-old was arrested on charges of criminal damage, lewd and lascivious behavior, and disorderly conduct.

¢ Lawrence police at 4 a.m. Thursday responded to a possible battery in the 1700 block of West 24th Street. An 18-year-old male resident reported he was sleeping on a couch and awoke when several people entered through an unlocked door. A physical altercation ensued.

A 20-year-old man, who had been asleep in a bedroom, told police he saw a black man strike the 18-year-old with a gun handle and saw three men fighting with another 20-year-old man who had been asleep on a couch. He told police he saw eight or nine individuals in the residence suddenly depart after battering the two men who had been sleeping on the couches.

Police think the attack may be related to another incident involving a rock thrown through a window in the same block. Police recovered a black metal pellet gun from another home in the block. The investigation continues.

Injury accidents

¢ A motorcyclist involved in a wreck last month has been discharged from Overland Park Regional Medical Center, where he was first transported.

Joseph K. Pfortmiller, 53, was riding a motorcycle July 17 west on Kansas Highway 10 when he collided with a vehicle traveling north on East Hills Drive.

On Friday, he was discharged from Overland Park Regional Medical Center and moved to another facility, according to center spokeswoman Gene Hallinan.

¢ A 19-year-old Lawrence resident was transported with nonlife-threatening injuries Friday to Lawrence Memorial Hospital after an automobile collision at Eighth and Tennessee streets.

About 4 p.m., Trier Nelson, 25, of Kansas City, Mo., was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala in the right southbound lane of Tennessee and attempted to make a turn left onto Eighth Street. She collided with a 1995 Chevrolet driven by Kristen Stouffer, who had been traveling south in the left lane. Stouffer was treated at the hospital and released.

¢ Two people were transported with minor injuries to Providence Medical Center in Leavenworth County following a two-vehicle accident about 4 p.m. Sunday.

Brandon Hubbard, 15, of Tonganoxie was driving a 1987 Mazda truck south on 198th Street in Leavenworth County when he stopped his car in the road to allow a second vehicle driven by Brian Swenson, 17, of Tonganoxie to catch up. Swenson struck the back of Hubbard’s vehicle.

Hubbard and passenger Emily Randolph, 15, of Kansas City, Kan., suffered minor injuries. Neither was wearing a seat belt. Swenson was not injured.
