Half-Marathon and 5K raise $42K for clinic

This year’s Lawrence Half-Mara-thon and 5K Race raised $42,000 for the Health Care Access Clinic.

Nikki King, executive director for the Health Care Access Clinic, said the total surpassed her expectation. The clinic provides medical services for people who can’t afford services from hospitals.

The Fun Run and Walk raised $1,440 for the Gibson Love Fund. It benefits Gibson Huston, grandson of Raintree Montessori School owners Keith and Lleanna McReynolds, who recently had brain surgery. The school was the races’ major beneficiary in the past.

Race directors are naming April 20, 2008, as the tentative date for next year’s race. Organizers also expect to add a full 26.2 mile marathon to the event in 2009.
