The Dine-A-Mite

To the editor:

Kansas University’s Class of 1957 was in Lawrence the weekend of April 21, and one class member quoted in the Journal-World mentioned spending a lot of time during college at “The Dynamite Inn.”

I am guessing Journal-World writer Eric Weslander didn’t grow up in Lawrence because the popular hot spot in the ’50s was “The Dine-A-Mite Inn.” Just a little correction here. Many will remember that the Dine-A-Mite Inn was way out on 23rd and Louisiana, and the “Flame Room” could be rented for parties.

Roy and Mary Borgen were the popular proprietors for many years, and about 9:30 p.m. on weekends, Roy would stroll around and sift “dance wax” on the hardwood floor to make the dancing better. Those of us who grew up in Lawrence will remember fun times at the Dine-A-Mite Inn.
