Miami ? John Maine took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, and the New York Mets scored four times before Dontrelle Willis retired a batter in a 9-2 win over the Florida Marlins on Wednesday night.

Miguel Cabrera’s sharp single broke up Maine’s bid to become the first Mets pitcher to throw a no-hitter. Three batters later, Joe Borchard hit a two-run homer. Maine (2-0) struck out seven and walked four in seven innings. Aaron Sele and Aaron Heilman completed the three-hitter.

David Wright, who went 2-for-5, singled in the second inning to extend his career-best hitting streak to 25 games, a franchise record over two seasons for the Mets. Hubie Brooks (1984) and Mike Piazza (1999) share the one-season record of 24 games in a row.

Willis (3-1) failed in his bid to become the first four-game winner in the majors. He allowed 10 hits and eight runs, seven earned, in five innings. The left-hander fell to 12-2 in April and 11-3 against the Mets.

Carlos Beltran homered and drove in three runs for New York. Jose Reyes went 4-for-6 and scored twice.

Rockies 7, Dodgers 2

Denver – Yorvit Torrealba hit a go-ahead, two-run single, and Colorado took advantage of a shaky outing by Derek Lowe. Matt Holliday went 3-for-4 with a double, and Brad Hawpe had two hits and two walks for the Rockies.

Nationals 5, Phillies 4 (13)

Washington – Felipe Lopez’s sacrifice fly off Francisco Rosario in the 13th inning lifted Washington. The Phillies, who were 1-for-11 with runners in scoring position, dropped to an NL-worst 3-10, a game behind the Nationals (5-10) in the NL East.

D’backs 5, Padres 2 (12)

San Diego – Eric Byrnes singled in the go-ahead run with two outs in the 12th inning, and Arizona, who got a career-high 13 strikeouts from Brandon Webb, beat San Diego.

Astros 7, Reds 2

Cincinnati – Jason Lane hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning, completing a rally that lifted the Astros to a victory over the Reds. Down 2-1, the Astros scored five times in the eighth against a bullpen that hadn’t surrendered a lead so late.

Brewers 7, Pirates 3

Milwaukee – Claudio Vargas struck out a career-high 11 over six innings, Bill Hall drove in three runs, and Milwaukee beat Pittsburgh. Vargas (1-0) worked in and out of trouble all night, highlighted by a 28-pitch fourth inning that ended with him striking out the side.

Braves 8, Cubs 6

Atlanta – Jeff Francoeur hit a three-run homer, Kelly Johnson added a clutch two-run single, and Atlanta rallied to beat Chicago.
