Olathe ? Daniel Selk shot a 78 on Monday to pace the Free State High boys golf team at the Olathe North/South Invitational at Prairie Highlands Golf Club.

The event also served as the first half of the Sunflower League tournament. The second 18 will take place May 9 at the Lawrence Invitational at Alvamar Golf Club.

The Firebirds finished with a team score of 321, good for 10th in the 19-team field. However, FSHS sits third among Sunflower League teams and also fared well in comparison to the teams it will see at next month’s Class 6A regional tournament.

“Right now, we’re in the mix, at least,” said Free State coach Matt Gudenkauf. “I was pretty happy with all our scores.”

Cameron Hartford shot a 92 to lead Lawrence High, which finished 19th with a score of 384.
