A public meeting has been set to discuss a downtown waterline project that will disrupt traffic and parking on parts of Massachusetts Street.

The meeting is set for 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at City Hall, Sixth and Massachusetts streets.

Staff members from BG Consultants and Nowak Construction will be on hand to discuss the project, which is expected to begin later this month.

The project, which is replacing a century-old waterline, will be completed in three phases.

Work will start with the western half of Massachusetts Street from 11th Street to North Park Street. Lanes on Massachusetts will be narrowed, but two-way traffic will continue. Parking will be prohibited on the western side of Massachusetts in the work zone.

Work then will shift to the eastern half of Massachusetts from Ninth to 11th streets. Parking on the eastern side of the work zone will be prohibited, and traffic will be limited to one way.

Work will move to the western side of Massachusetts for the final stage. Parking on the western side of the work zone, between Ninth and 11th streets, will be prohibited and traffic will be limited to one way.

The $1.92 million project is expected to last through early September.
