Sonny Bono’s sidewalk star relocated and dedicated

Palm Springs, Calif. – It was a Sonny weekend in the California desert.

Sonny Bono’s sidewalk star, dug up years ago for a construction project, was relocated on Palm Canyon Drive and dedicated Saturday in front of the ’60s pop star-turned-politician’s bronze statue.

“It’s unbelievably beautiful,” said U.S. Rep. Mary Bono, his widow, who took part in the downtown ceremony with their children, Chianna and Chesare Bono, pictured above.

Bono died Jan. 5, 1998, when he struck a tree while skiing in South Lake Tahoe, Calif. He was 62.

During Saturday’s ceremonies, he was remembered as half of the Sonny & Cher singing duo, as mayor of Palm Springs 1988 to 1992, and as a U.S. congressman until his death.

“We will never forget what he has done for us,” said Mayor Ron Oden, who proclaimed April 7th as Sonny Bono Day.

‘Spider-Man 3’ star says he may not play superhero again

New York – Tobey Maguire, star of “Spider-Man 3,” isn’t sure he’d play the superhero a fourth time.

“I appreciate movies from a standpoint of entertainment and distraction, and I also love when people make movies that help raise awareness,” says the 31-year-old actor, whose films also include “The Cider House Rules” and “Seabiscuit.”

“I don’t really have a lot of formed ideas. It’s more just thoughts,” he tells Men’s Journal in its May issue, on newsstands today. “I might do another ‘Spider-Man’ movie – I don’t know.”

Maguire says “Spider-Man 3” has a “fresh story” for his character.

“The public is adoring him, and it goes to his head. He’s behaving arrogantly and is self-involved, which changes the feeling of the character for me. And it just gets darker from there,” he says.

Columbia Pictures’ “Spider-Man 3” opens May 4.

Police: ‘Laguna Beach’ actor spewed slurs during arrest

Seattle – Television actor Jason Wahler hurled racial and homophobic invectives at a police officer when he was arrested over the weekend after punching a hotel security guard and passing out drunk in a hallway, a Seattle Police Department report said.

Wahler, 20, a star of MTV’s “The Hills” and “Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County,” was arrested early Sunday for investigation of assault and criminal trespass. He posted bail and was released from the King County Jail nine hours later.

It was Wahler’s third arrest since September, when he punched a city worker and tow-truck driver in Los Angeles. Last month, the judge in that case sentenced him to 60 days in jail – a sentence he was scheduled to serve beginning in May – and ordered him to attend Alcoholics Anonymous classes and a one-day program at the Museum of Tolerance for using racial slurs.

‘Scrubs’ star ties the knot

New York – “Scrubs” star John C. McGinley is a newlywed, his spokeswoman said Monday.

McGinley, 47, married yoga instructor Nichole Kessler, 34, Saturday in Malibu, Calif., publicist Nancy Iannios told The Associated Press.

He proposed last August, Iannios said. He has a 9-year-old son, Max, from a previous marriage.

McGinley plays the acid-tongued Dr. Perry Cox on the loopy sitcom “Scrubs,” which airs on General Electric Co.’s NBC network.

His film credits include “Office Space,” “Any Given Sunday” and “Are We Done Yet?”
