Relay for Life to help fight cancer
The American Cancer Society Relay for Life invites Douglas County residents to join them June 8 to celebrate their theme: Cancer can be conquered.
Teams of eight to 15 participants will take turns walking around the Free State High School track for 12 hours to raise money for cancer research. According to the American Cancer Society, cancer will be diagnosed in more than 1 million people this year.
The ceremony begins with a cancer survivors’ Lap of Hope at 7 p.m. June 8. Teams can camp out while entertainment, eating, games and team-building experiences take place.
Teams must be registered by Sunday. To register your team, call Lori Kloepper at 876-2306 or send an e-mail to her at lkloepper@unbank.com.
If you are a cancer survivor and would like to take part in the relay, please call Alicia Reed at 864-7771 or send an e-mail to amreed@ku.edu by April 15. Participating survivors receive a free commemorative Relay for Life T-shirt.
