Mariners, Indians snowed out again
Cleveland – For the second day in a row, snow and cold weather have forced a doubleheader between the Seattle Mariners and Cleveland Indians to be postponed.
Now the Mariners and Indians will try to salvage half of their four-game series by playing two today, beginning at 4:05 p.m. The second game is scheduled to start approximately 20 minutes after completion of the first.
The Cleveland area has been blanketed by a spring snowstorm, which has dumped over a foot of snow in some places.
Matsui put on DL due to bad hamstring
New York – Hideki Matsui was put on the 15-day disabled list Sunday by the New York Yankees, a day after straining his left hamstring.
New York planned to recall Kevin Thompson from Triple-A Scranton of the International League.
Big Unit makes start
on rehab assignment
Modesto, Calif. – Randy Johnson of the Arizona Diamondbacks, out with a back injury, allowed two runs and four hits in six innings of a minor-league start on Sunday.
Hampton sidelined with elbow pain
Atlanta – Mike Hampton’s struggle to return to the Atlanta Braves’ rotation had another setback on Sunday when he felt pain in his left elbow.
Gagne pain-free, ready to return
Arlington, Texas – Eric Gagne felt better than expected Sunday after pitching on consecutive days and said he’s ready to be the Texas Rangers’ closer.
Gagne is eligible to come off the DL on Friday. The Rangers expect him to travel with the team Thursday and be activated before the start of their weekend series at Seattle.
