The family of Peggy Bartlett will celebrate her 80th birthday with an open house from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. today at the Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St.

¢An open house celebrating the 80th birthday of Deloris Landis, Lawrence, will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. April 14 at Wakarusa Valley School, 1104 E. 1000 Road. Friends and family are invited. No gifts, please.

¢Jason L. and Aishah K. Holm, Lawrence, announce the birth of their daughter, Tessa Corrine Holm, born March 14, 2007, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. She joins a brother, Alexander.

¢The Perry Scrapbooking April Meetup will be from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. April 14 at the Kentucky Township Community Building, 506 E. Front St., Perry. The cost is $12 per person, and space is limited. To make a reservation, go to scrapbook.meetup.com/1497.

¢Several chess players and teams from Lawrence were named to the Kansas Scholastic Chess Association’s All-State teams for the 2006-2007 season. Southwest Junior High School was named a High School All-State team, and Quail Run, Cordley and Wakarusa Valley schools were named Elementary All-State teams. High school all-staters include SWJH’s Thomas Reams, Peter Lesslie, Thomas Clark and Alan Shi. Wakarusa Valley’s Lucas Suchy, Cordley’s Edward Wilson and Quail Run’s Luke Lesslie were named elementary all-staters.

¢Jessica Newman, a student at South Junior High School, finished seventh at the Kansas State Girls Chess Championship on March 24 at Washburn Rural High School in Topeka. Wakarusa Valley School’s Aimee Nielson and Laura Nielson finished 11th and 16th, respectively.

¢Anne Kettle and Merry Chadwick, both of Lawrence, were named to the Dean’s List for grades achieved during the fall 2006 semester at St. Olaf College. Both are seniors at the college in Northfield, Minn. Students who earn semester grade point averages of 3.75 or higher earn a spot on the list.

¢Thomas Parrish, a senior at Free State High School, has been accepted into the National Society of High School Scholars.

He has maintained a 4.0 grade point average and plans to attend Kansas State University this fall to study chemical engineering. He is the son of Rob and Brenda Parrish, Lawrence.

¢Brent Charles Mowery, Lawrence, has been named to the Dean’s List for grades achieved during the past semester at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. Students named to the list earned a grade point average of 3.5 or higher.

¢ Ashley Coffman, Lawrence, will perform with Bethany College’s College Choir and Chamber Choir during their spring tour.

The tour includes a performance at 7 p.m. April 21 at First Lutheran Church in Topeka. The concerts are free and open to the public.

Coffman is a junior majoring in vocal music education and vocal performance at the college in Lindsborg.

¢Scott Dieker, Lawrence, recently completed the 2007 Paramedic to Registered Nurse Online Bridge Program at Hutchinson Community College.

Dieker also passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses exam.

¢Several area students earned semester honors from Kansas State University for grades achieved during the fall 2006 semester.
