Doug Gaumer is back at Intrust Bank in Lawrence as its community bank president.

Gaumer, who previously worked at Intrust from May 2004 to March 2006, this week moved into the job left open with the promotion of Don Johnston to executive vice president for Intrust’s Northeast Kansas Region.

“It’s a very exciting opportunity and time for me,” said Gaumer, who returned to the bank after working as vice president for equity research at Security Benefit in Topeka. “It’s great to be back, and I am looking forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead.”

Gaumer oversees Law-rence’s three Intrust branches with a total of 30 employees and $75 million in deposits. Intrust came to town in 1999.

Both Gaumer and Johnston report to Mike Maddox, who is president of the Northeast Kansas Region. Maddox joined Intrust in 2000 as community bank president in Lawrence and was promoted in 2004.

The region’s 12 branch locations – in Lawrence, Topeka, Junction City, Manhattan and Johnson County – have 120 employees. Construction of a new branch in Olathe, along Ridgeview Road just south of Kansas Highway 10, is scheduled to begin soon.

Johnston’s new role will allow him to apply his years of banking experience – including his more than four years at Intrust – in a wider geographic area, focusing on Lawrence, Topeka and the Kansas City area, said Diane Iseman, an Intrust spokeswoman. Johnston, who had served as community bank president since 2004, will maintain an office at Intrust’s main branch in Lawrence, at 901 Vt.

Gaumer earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration at Kansas State University, and has taken graduate courses at Kansas University. He is a board member for several community organizations: Cottonwood Inc., Salvation Army and Lawrence Schools Foundation.
