Lions blast Leavenworth

? Lawrence High pounded 37 hits, Daniel Green pitched a three-inning no-hitter, and Clint Pinnick had a huge game at the plate Wednesday in a baseball doubleheader sweep of Leavenworth.

Green struck out five and walked four without allowing a hit as the Lions won the opener, 16-0, in three innings. And Pinnick went 4-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and a home run as the Lions won the second game, 17-3.

Preston Scheibler struck out six in four innings in the second game. Daniel Parker and Travis Sanders each had three hits in the first game.

“We swung the bats very well,” LHS coach Brad Stoll said. “We put a great deal of pressure on them. We really hammered the ball all night, and we played some really good defense. Our catchers (Patrick Johnson and Chase Muder) worked very hard defensively. They were both really solid defensively.”

The Lions (4-2) will travel to play Shawnee Mission West at 4:30 p.m. today.
