Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for April 4, 1907: “Rumors are circulating that last Friday night there were three keg parties in Lawrence, all participated in by students of the university. They were in addition to the champagne supper of the TNE fraternity that led to three boys in police custody after some damage. The faculty is investigating and the aim is to clear the school of all questionable characters. It would seem some remedial action and some punishment are in order. : The Lawrence Committee in its public meeting today decided to hold a Douglas County fair during the third week in September. There has been considerable sentiment to return to ‘the days of yesteryear’ when the county had outstanding fairs. Many believe the 1907 event will be outstanding. : A major strike by railway trainmen has been averted and brewery workers in St. Louis have returned to their jobs after a short strike. : Thirty-eight graduates of KU this year intend to seek teaching certificates, the university has announced.”
