Board to hear about wellness efforts

Bottom line

Bruce Passman, deputy superintendent, will discuss how the district is implementing the school board’s new wellness goals, which include getting students to choose healthier food.

Background

Last spring, Lawrence school officials approved a wellness policy designed to curb students’ in-school access to sweets. The policy included restricting when students would have access to candy and soft drinks. Passman plans new policy guidelines concerning nutrition, nutrition education and physical activity.
