KU soccer tumbles at OSU, 1-0

? Yolanda Odenyo’s goal in the 106th minute led Oklahoma State to a 1-0 double-overtime victory over Kansas University in Big 12 Conference soccer on Friday at the Cowgirl Soccer Complex.

KU fell to 5-3 overall, 0-1 in the Big 12. OSU improved to 7-1-1 and 2-0.

The Jayhawks fell victim to an unlucky bounce in the second overtime when a loose ball on the near side of the net bounced away from goalkeeper Julie Hanley and to Odenyo, who tapped the ball into an open net.

“It was a disappointing result, but we definitely left it all on the field for sure,” KU coach Mark Francis said. “It was a back-and-forth game. We actually played very well. We just made a mistake on the winning goal.”

The teams combined for 39 shots, but only put seven on net. KU’s Hanley and OSU’s Erin Stigler each made three saves.

After being outshot for much of the first half, KU put on a late surge in the final five minutes, taking seven shots. Senior Holly Gault had a pair of chances back-to-back at the top of the box, but both were knocked down by the defense.
