4-H and FCE news

¢ Kahlyn Heine, president of the Clinton Eagles 4-H Club, called its August meeting to order.

Members answered roll call by recalling their favorite fair memory.

Lanaea Heine gave a report on the Douglas County Fair. She reminded members of upcoming events: Oct. 1-7, National 4-H Week, and Oct. 21, Maple Leaf Festival parade in Baldwin.

Steve Dieker reported that the club bought a steer from Alex Cox for $525.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Wakarusa Valley School. The club will elect new officers.

¢ The Douglas County Family and Community Education Council met Sept. 8 in Deal Six Auditorium.

Charlene Winter announced that the 2006 state conference will be Oct. 17-18 in Manhattan. She also discussed state and national membership awards.

The council voted to have the Lawrence City Commission and the Douglas County Commission read and sign the Family and Community Education proclamation for National FCE week Oct. 8-14. Charlene Winter and Aliene Bieber will attend the signing at both meetings.

The Northeast area meeting will be Nov. 2 in Manhattan. Officers and program committee members should attend.

Darlene Bright announced the next Red Cross Blood Drive will be Oct. 12 at First Christian Church. Kaw Valley and India FCE units will furnish cookies.

The Fall Festival will be at 11:30 a.m. Oct. 20 in Building 21 North at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds.

Kathy Mullinazzi was nominated for the Heart of FCE award and Mary Ann Thomas for the FCE Family award.

The next FCE Council meeting will be Nov. 14.
