JACKSONVILLE, FLA. ? Jacksonville Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio gave the game ball for Monday night’s 9-0 victory against the Super Bowl champion Steelers to defensive coordinator Mike Smith.

It was a fitting decision after the Jaguars delivered one of the most dominant defensive performances in team history.

“I thought he was magnificent,” Del Rio said.

Smith mixed coverages, stunts and blitzes to near perfection, keeping quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers off balance and allowing Jacksonville to win with just three field goals.

The Jaguars (2-0) set a franchise record by allowing 26 yards rushing, breaking the previous mark of 28 set in 2001 against Minnesota. They also gave up 153 total yards, the third-fewest in team history.

“The thing I’m most proud of is we pitched a shutout,” Del Rio said. “That’s hard to do in this league.”
