Quick hits: Perry-Lecompton is feeling good about itself after winning last week’s revenge game against the team that knocked the Kaws out of the Class 4A playoffs. Perry-Lecompton had rushing touchdowns last week from three different players – Shane Gizmo, Caleb Denton and Brent Garrison.

Tonganoxie (2-0) at Bonner Springs (1-1)

Last week’s results: Tonganoxie beat Kansas City Ward, 34-17; Bonner Springs lost to Kansas City Piper, 35-20

Last year’s meeting: Tonganoxie won, 28-12

Quick hits: Tonganoxie had four rushing touchdowns against Kansas City Ward last week. Daniel Volk rushed for two scores, while quarterback Jeff Hughes rushed for a score and added one through the air. Tonganoxie’s defense also gave up only 35 yards on the ground last week.

Anderson County (2-0) at De Soto (2-0)

Last week’s results: Anderson County beat Prairie View, 17-14; De Soto beat Kansas City Sumner, 18-0

Last year’s meeting: De Soto won, 28-14

Quick hits: De Soto is averaging 39 points per game this season, but will face an Anderson County defense that shut out Central Heights, 28-0, the first week of the season. Eudora also shut out Central Heights, 34-0, last week, so now’s the chance to see if the Anderson County defense is legit.

Ottawa (0-2) at Spring Hill (0-2)

Last week: Ottawa lost to Louisburg, 64-0; Spring Hill lost to Gardner-Edgerton, 61-12

Last year’s meeting: Ottawa won, 35-6

Quick hits: It’s been a difficult two weeks for the Cyclones. Ottawa has given up 60 and 64 points in consecutive weeks. Spring Hill has averaged only 16.5 points in its two losses.

Oskaloosa (2-0) at Jackson Heights (1-1)

Last week: Oskaloosa beat Valley Falls, 30-0; Jackson Heights lost to Pleasant Ridge, 34-0

Last year’s meeting: Jackson Heights won, 20-7

Quick hits: Oskaloosa has already equaled its win total from last season. Quarterback Brock McGinnis threw two touchdowns passes – from 21 and 44 yards – for the Bears last week. Oskaloosa had a balanced attack and also had two touchdown runs, courtesy of Mitch Lowe and Boone Heston.

Wathena (1-1) at McLouth (1-1)

Last week: Wathena beat Horton, 18-15; McLouth beat Doniphan West, 27-20

Last year’s meeting: McLouth won, 56-6

Quick hits: Mark Stewart accounted for three McLouth touchdowns last week. Doniphan West outgained McLouth on offense last week, 251-111. The biggest play of the game for McLouth was arguably when Trevor Keling intercepted a pass in Doniphan West’s end zone. It tied the game up and completely changed the momentum in the Bulldogs’ favor.

Santa Fe Trail (2-0) at Lansing (0-2)

Last week: Santa Fe Trail beat Leav-enworth Immaculata, 7-0; Lansing lost to Perry-Lecompton, 21-13

Last year’s meeting: Lansing won, 27-13

Quick hits: Low-scoring games have played into Santa Fe Trail’s favor this season. Aside from its 7-0 victory last week, the Chargers defeated Kansas City Piper, 10-7, in Week 1.

Kansas City Piper (1-1) at Mill Valley (2-0)

Last week: Kansas City Piper beat Bonner Springs, 35-20; Mill Valley beat Basehor-Linwood, 42-8

Last year’s meeting: Did not play

Quick hits: Mill Valley has scored 42 points in each of its games this season. The defense has held its own as well. The Jaguars surrendered only 13 points in Week 1 against Kansas City Ward, and eight points last week against Basehor-Linwood.

Veritas (0-2) at St. Joseph (Mo.) Christian (0-2)

Last week’s results: Veritas lost to Topeka Cair Paravel, 40-0; St. Joseph lost to Elwood, 52-46.
