KU schedules policy conference

Registrations are being accepted for the 2006 Kansas Economic Policy Conference, set for Oct. 26 at Kansas University.

The conference, “Is Density Destiny? Reshaping Kansas Government for the 21st Century,” will address challenges confronting Kansas in the face of long-running demographic changes that have reshaped the state and shifted population from rural to urban areas.

Scheduled presentations include “Reshaping the Local Government Landscape,” by Suzanne Leland, University of North Carolina at Charlotte; “Baby Boomers and Immigrants on the Range: Population Trends in Kansas,” by Laszlo Kulcsar, Kansas State University; “The State of Innovation in Kansas,” by Joshua Rosenbloom, Kansas University; and “Sizing Up Kansas Public Finance,” by Bart Hildreth, Wichita State University.

Rep. Doug Mays, speaker of the Kansas House of Representatives, will offer “A Candid Look at Kansas Government,” followed by a “Reinventing Government” presentation featuring Carol Marinovich, former mayor and CEO of Kansas City, Kan., and the Unified Government of Wyandotte County, and others.
