Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Oct. 30, 1906: “Gov. Hoch will talk politics at the local opera house tonight, and a tremendous crowd is expected as elections near. Eudora held an enthusiastic Republican meeting last evening. U.S. Sen. Benson will be here tonight. : It was revealed for the first time last night that W.W. Cickins of Kansas City, once a Lawrence resident, was the ‘anonymous’ donor of the $12,000 for building the Westminster House here. The agreement entails local people matching such funds but the outlook is good. : Word is that KU injuries will not cancel the football game at St. Louis and it could be one of the best contests of the year, despite all the local injuries. : J.J. Eddy and C.O. Bowman are certainties to be elected county treasurer and county school superintendent since they have no opposition in November. Both have done good jobs and should be kept in office.”
