Doc Severinsen, noted trumpet player and band leader for Johnny Carson’s “Tonight Show” on television, drew a capacity crowd to the Lawrence Opera House for a concert with his band.

A new endowed professorship of law had been established through a sizable gift of land to the KU Endowment Association by Robert A. Schroeder, Kansas City, Mo. Barkley Clark, also a Lawrence city commissioner, was to be the initial honoree for the KU professorship.
