Law enforcement report

¢ Lawrence Police arrested a 40-year-old Lawrence man Saturday afternoon on a charge of sexual battery after a disturbance at the Lawrence Community Shelter, 214 W. 10th St.

Sgt. Michael Monroe, a police spokesman, said staff members asked the man to leave the shelter after he caused a disturbance, but the man became upset and inappropriately grabbed a female staff member. The man also had two unrelated warrants out for his arrest, and he was booked into jail at 5:30 p.m.

¢ Lawrence Police arrested a Lawrence man Saturday night on suspicion of making a criminal threat and domestic battery outside of Rick’s Place, 846 Ill., said Sgt. Michael Monroe, a police spokesman.

Monroe said witnesses allege that the man threatened a bouncer inside and also battered his girlfriend about 8 p.m. while they were leaving the bar. The man’s girlfriend refused medical treatment at the scene, and a full report was not available Saturday night.

¢ Authorities called for utility crews Saturday evening to make repairs near U.S. Highway 59 after a one-vehicle, noninjury accident damaged a power pole north of Lawrence and near Midland.

Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical reported the following responses:

¢ Just after 8 p.m. Saturday, emergency responders were called to the Midland Co-Op north of Lawrence to investigate a report of anhydrous ammonia spraying from a tank near there in the 1400 section of North 1940 Diagonal Road, which is along U.S. Highway 24-59.

Capt. James King of Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical said it was a small leak in a valve, which only took a few minutes to shut off. Crews cleared the scene fairly quickly, he said.

¢ Arcing, shorted electrical equipment, 7:03 p.m. Friday, 1013 Rogers Place.

¢ Alarm sounded, no fire, unintentional, 10:40 p.m. Friday, 1008 Summerfield Way.
