21-year-old driver killed after vehicle accident

A 21-year-old was found dead in a Franklin County creek early Saturday, after being ejected from a pickup truck during a wreck.

Carl Gormly, Osawatomie, lost control of the vehicle near a bridge southeast of Ottawa, according to Sheriff Craig Davis.

“The vehicle, a 2003 Ford pickup, went through a guardrail … and rolled several times down the embankment, went airborne across the creek, coming to rest on its top on the west side of the creek bed,” he said in a release.

Davis said Gormly was ejected and his body was discovered in Middle Creek, near Rock Creek Road, about 3 1/2 miles west of Rantoul.

A passer-by discovered the pickup partially submerged in water at 7:38 a.m., a dispatcher said. Davis said it’s believed the accident happened about five or six hours earlier.

Gormly’s body was transported to the Shawnee County coroner’s office for an autopsy, Davis said.
