Hot and windy this afternoon

Chance for scattered rain Wednesday

Get ready for what could be a record-setting hot day, said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

“We’re heading up to 95 degrees,” Schack said. “We will be challenging the record.”

The record high was 95 degrees, set in 1976. The average high temperature for this date is 75 degrees.

“You won’t need a sweat shirt or a jacket this morning,” Schack said.

At 7:15 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 73 degrees, the humidity was 62 percent and winds were calm.

The average low temperature for this date is 54 degrees. The record low was 35 degrees, set in 1987.

Winds will be from the south today at 12 to 20 mph, gusting up to 25 mph, Schack said. A few clouds will arrive this afternoon, she said.

Overnight, the temperature will fall to 65 degrees, with a slight chance for scattered showers Wednesday morning, she said.

“It will feel more like fall for Wednesday and for Thursday,” she said.

Temperatures will drop off to around average Wednesday, with the high reaching 77 degrees and winds from the north at 10 to 20 mph, Schack said.

Thursday’s morning low will be 56 degrees, with the high reaching 78 degrees. There’s a chance for rain Thursday morning, she said.
