Highs of 90s expected through Wednesday

It might be October, but don’t pack away your shorts and sandals just yet – today’s temperatures will soar into the 90s.

“It looks like a hot afternoon,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

Today’s high will be 94 degrees, with mostly clear skies and winds from the south at 10 to 20 mph. The average high temperature for this date is 77 degrees. The record high was 97 degrees, set in 1976.

At 7:30 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 71 degrees, the humidity was 73 percent and winds were out of the south-southeast at 5 mph.

The average low temperature for this date is 54 degrees. The record low was 33 degrees, set in 2004.

Tonight, the low temperature will fall to 68 degrees by early Tuesday morning, Schack said.

More hot temperatures will heat up the area on Tuesday, she said. Tuesday’s high will be 94 degrees, with south-southwest winds at 10 to 20 mph, she said.

Wednesday’s morning low will start at 64 degrees. Wednesday’s high will be 81 degrees, with a chance for storms on Wednesday night, she said.
