No serious wrecks during holiday weekend

Even with holiday traffic cramming the highways, local law enforcement officials said the holiday weekend was devoid of any serious traffic incidents.

Shaun Coffey, a division chief with Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical, said late Sunday that he had not heard reports about any serious wrecks during the weekend.

Kansas Highway Patrol dispatchers in the Topeka area said there had been no serious wrecks on state highways in the area this weekend, but more complete information would be available today.

The Highway Patrol did not respond to any injury accidents during the weekend in the area including Douglas, Franklin, Jefferson and Leavenworth counties, according to patrol records.
