Two Lawrence area groups will attempt to raise money tonight to help adopt families for Christmas through the Pelathe Community Center.
Bands "Mama Soul Kitchen," "Sleeping Dogs" and "Froyd" will perform at the Adopt a Family Fundraiser beginning at 9 p.m. at Stu's Midtown Tavern, 925 Iowa.
The cover charge will be $7 at the door, but if patrons bring a nonperishable food item, the cost will be $5.
Kerry Johnson said Clan Chaos and Tribe Threee, two loosely based groups of Lawrence pagans, are sponsoring the event, which will include a silent auction and other games to help raise money to give gifts and items to needy families for Christmas.
"If you own a business, you should really help out as much as you can in the community that you are in because it is hard for people around this time of year," said Johnson, owner of the Village Witch, 311 N. Second St.
Johnson said these types of charity events typically raise about $2,000.

Don't know where else to do this - cant afford an ad but here is a list of businesses I would like to thank for donating items for our silent auction. It is so refreshing to see local merchants giving back to the community. Here goes: Southwest and More, Persephon's Journey, Third Planet, Game Nut, Vermont Street BBQ, Waxmans Candles, Holiday Inn, Springhill Suites, Baymont Inn, Biggs BBQ, Carlos O'Kelly's, Don's Steak House, Headmasters and Village Witch (I made us donate ; ) ). Also the following bands for donating their gigs: Mama Soul Kitchen, Sleeping Dogs, and Froyd. I would also like to thank the Journal World for doing the story and helping get the word out.
