Sunflower project adds new partner

The owner and developer of the former Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant south of De Soto is adding another partner.

Sunflower Redevelopment LLC partners Kessinger/Hunter and Co., of Kansas City, Mo., and International Risk Group, of Denver, announced Wednesday that they had been joined by Prairie Center Investors LLC, an entity formed by Overland Park-based Midland Properties Inc.

Sunflower Redevelopment acquired the 9,065 acres in northwest Johnson County in August 2005. Once a seven-year environmental cleanup is complete, 3,000 acres of the site will be turned over to the Johnson County Park & Recreation District, Kansas State University, Kansas University, the city of De Soto and De Soto public schools.

Financial details of the new partnership were not disclosed.

Sunflower Redevelopment aims to bring a mix of residential, commercial and light industrial development to the balance of the former munitions site.
