An early morning fire that forced the evacuation of Naismith Hall at Kansas University was ruled an arson, according to Fire Chief Jim McSwain. The north elevator in the residence hall on the south edge of the campus apparently was filled with “furniture or pieces of furniture” and set on fire, an investigation found. Damage was estimated at $90,000. There were no reports of injuries, but 450 students had to be evacuated.
