Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for Nov. 1, 1906: “The Kansas University library now contains 52,000 volumes and 3,400 pamphlets. An annual appropriation of $8,000 is received by the library and during the 1906-07 academic year 4,000 volumes will be added. : Halloween passed very quietly in all portions of the town last night. There was a noticeable absence of the usual petty annoyances, such as tick-tacks on windows and the throwing of corn and beans. Increased police vigilance all over town had much to do with this condition. It marked the first time six police patrolled on horseback. : Lawrence is attempting to get a vaudeville house. No wonder the Quakers want to sell their church.”
