On television, everything gets recycled at least twice. Ricki Lake hosts “Gameshow Marathon” (7 p.m., CBS), a new series with some very familiar twists. Six celebrity contestants will compete in weekly elimination rounds in which they play a different classic game. The golden oldies dusted off here include “The Price Is Right,” “Let’s Make a Deal,” “Beat the Clock,” “Press Your Luck,” “Card Sharks,” “Match Game” and “Family Feud.”

“Marathon” will appear twice weekly for two weeks before settling into its weekly time period (7 p.m. Thursdays) on June 15. Participants include Tim Meadows, Leslie Nielsen, Kathy Najimy, Lance Bass, Paige Davis and Brande Roderick.

The celebrity angle seems like a big mistake to me. The success of prime-time game shows, from “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” to “Deal or No Deal,” proves that viewers like to root for somebody who really needs the money.

Lake won an Emmy for her eponymous daytime talk show. She made her very big debut in John Waters’ 1988 comedy “Hairspray,” which has gone on to inspire a Broadway musical, which has in turn inspired a major motion picture, now in production. What’s that I said about recycling?

¢ Speaking of bold-faced names playing games, “Celebrity Poker Showdown” (8 p.m., Bravo) moves to the Crescent City. Dave Foley hosts this New Orleans tournament, featuring quips and chips, with Greg Behrendt, Andrea Martin, Kim Coles, Michael Ian Black and Jorge Garcia.

¢ A&E hopes to levitate its ratings with the second showcase of “Criss Angel Mindfreak” (9 p.m., A&E). Angel has been named Magician of the Year for three years. For his first act, Angel will attempt to levitate and move from the top of one building to another. In this stunt, he will be walking, or at least floating, in the footsteps of D.D. Home, a 19th century Scotsman who wowed crowds in the Highlands with his incredible levitation act.

Angel will also lift a boy, chosen at random, off the pavement of a parking lot by harnessing the power of static electricity in his hair. In the second helping (9:30 p.m.), Angel will make a spectator vanish. And we’re not just talking about people changing the channel.

¢ Jaime Pressly, who deserves an Emmy nomination for her brilliant performance on “My Name Is Earl,” hosts “VH1 Rock Honors” (8 p.m., VH1). The newly minted award acknowledges the giants of hard rock, including KISS, Queen, Def Leppard and Judas Priest. Scheduled performers include Foo Fighters, the All-American Rejects and Godsmack.
