Burglaries a reminder to lock homes, cars

Lawrence Police are reminding people to secure their homes and vehicles after a string of burglaries earlier this week in the 800 block of Oak Street in North Lawrence.

At least six burglaries happened on the block late Tuesday or early Wednesday, according to reports. In one case, the suspect or suspects entered an open garage and burglarized two unlocked vehicles. In another case, they bent and removed a window screen that had been left open while the occupants were sleeping.

Vehicles parked on the street or in driveways also were burglarized.

“We want people to realize that you need to keep everything locked up and report anything suspicious,” said Sgt. Dan Ward, a Lawrence Police spokesman.

He asked anyone with information about the burglaries to call the police department at 841-7210 or the anonymous Crime Stoppers hot line at 843-TIPS.
