Owners of historic house receive grant

Owners of the Robert H. Miller House, 1111 E. 19th St., will receive a $90,000 Heritage Trust Fund grant to help repair the historic home.

The Kansas Historic Sites Board of Review recently recommended that the homeowners, Dennis and Judith Dailey, receive one of the grants for 2006.

The board of review also awarded more than $1 million in funding for 16 other projects in the state.

Robert Miller and his family arrived in Kansas in 1858. They built the home soon after their arrival. The grant will help repair its deteriorated northwest corner and west wall.

The wall will be anchored to the floor framing. Existing wall ties will be removed. A new chimney foundation will be provided, and parts of the chimney will be reconstructed.
