KU mumps cases climb; state total tops 600
As final exams wrap up today at Kansas University, six more students have been diagnosed with confirmed or probable mumps cases.
As of Thursday, Douglas County has reported 244 cases since the beginning of the year; 181 of those cases have involved KU students, said Lynn Bretz, a KU spokeswoman.
Earlier this week, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment reported 601 confirmed or probable cases in 60 counties since the outbreak began in March.
Health experts with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control have said they think the outbreak started in Iowa.
The Iowa Department of Public Health reported 1,608 confirmed or probable cases and 200 suspected cases as of Wednesday.
