Cool and cloudy this afternoon

Studying for finals? You won’t have to worry about spring fever – cool, cloudy weather is in store for Lawrence today.

“Temperatures will struggle again, only into the low 60s,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

Thick clouds roll in this afternoon, with the high temperature reaching only 65 degrees, Schack said.

The average high temperature for this date is 76 degrees. The record high was 91 degrees, set in 1941.

“I do not think we see any measurable rainfall. At best just a sprinkle,” Schack said. “Most of the shower activity will be to the east of us.”

Winds will be from the north-northwest, at 10 to 18 mph, she said.

At 7 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 50 degrees, the humidity was 86 percent and winds were out of the northwest at 10 mph.

This morning’s low temperature was 46 degrees about 3 a.m. The average low temperature for this date is 55 degrees. The record low was 37 degrees, set in 2005.

“We will make a slow climb for Tuesday,” Schack said.

Tuesday’s morning low will be 46 degrees. Tuesday’s high will be 67 degrees with cloudy skies, she said.

Sunshine returns on Wednesday, Schack said.

Wednesday’s morning low will be 49 degrees, with Wednesday’s high climbing to 80 degrees, she said.
