Waterline repairs to be discussed at meeting

Downtown business owners and others will have a chance to learn more about a waterline replacement project that will tear up much of downtown this summer.

A public meeting will be at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at City Hall, Sixth and Massachusetts streets. Engineers from BG Consultants and city staff members will be on hand to answer questions.

The summer’s work – scheduled to begin May 22 – will occur in three phases. First, work will occur on the east side of Massachusetts Street in the 700 and 800 blocks. During that time, traffic will be allowed to go only southbound on the street, and parking will be removed from the east side of the street.

Work then will shift to the west side of the 700 and 800 blocks of Massachusetts Street. During that time, only northbound traffic will be allowed, and parking will be removed from the west side of the street. The last portion of the project will be a repaving of that section of Massachusetts Street.

Sidewalks will be open during the project. Midblock crosswalks also will remain open. The project is expected to last until mid-September.
