20 Hamas activists are arrested

? Jordan announced Wednesday that it has detained more than 20 Hamas activists for allegedly smuggling weapons, and warned the Hamas-led Palestinian government against fomenting any violence in the kingdom.

Revealing for the first time the number of people arrested since the weapons cache was uncovered, the announcement highlighted the deepening isolation of Hamas – even by Arab countries – since it formed a Palestinian government last March.

The arrests are connected to the discovery on April 18 of a cache of weapons, including Iranian-made Katyusha rockets and LAW anti-tank missiles, which were allegedly smuggled into Jordan and stockpiled there, government spokesman Nasser Judeh said.

The government has said in the past the weapons were smuggled from neighboring Syria.
