Corporate cooks to face off Friday

Sixteen area employers will compete in the annual Sertoma Corporate Cook-off and Mixer, set for 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday at Broken Arrow Park, 29th and Louisiana streets.

The teams will grill burgers, brats, hot dogs, chicken and other meats before facing judging from Mayor Mike Amyx; state Sen. Roger Pine, R-Lawrence; state Rep. Tom Sloan, R-Lawrence; and Max Falkenstien, retired Voice of the Jayhawks.

Competing this year are teams from CEK Insurance, Central National Bank, City of Lawrence, Clark Inspection Service, CornerBank, Douglas County Bank, Douglas County Senior Services, Factory Direct Appliance, Golf USA, Keller & Associates, Lawrence Memorial Hospital, Lawrence Realty Associates, Minuteman Press, Schroeder Chiropractic Wellness Center, Treanor & Associates, and Wiklund, Peterson, Krische & Van Horn DDS.

Admission is $5, which covers taste samples, soft drinks and entertainment. Proceeds go toward the Sertoma Club’s civic activities, including the Schiefelbusch Communication Camp for speech- and hearing-challenged youth.
