Haskell faculty to be honored

Haskell Indian Nations University will host an award ceremony today for faculty.

“The last time we did this was in 1992,” said Michael Tosee, acting dean for Haskell’s college of liberal arts and sciences.

The awards will recognize:

Best teacher

Institutional service

* Lifetime achievement.

Haskell students are expected to name a teacher of the year, and representatives of the Seminole Tribe of Florida will present a new award, the Howard Tiger Coaching Recognition Award.

TIger was a decorated World War II veteran who, among Seminoles, is well-known for his athletic prowess.

“This is a very nice gesture on their part,” Tosee said, referring to the Seminole Tribe. Presenters will include Michael Jumper Jr. and Tiger’s son, Michael Tiger.

The ceremony begins at 3 p.m. in the conference room in Navarre Hall.
