Olathe ? Daniel Green tossed a two-hit shutout Thursday as the Lawrence High baseball team earned a 3-0 victory over Olathe Northwest at the Olathe District Activities Center.

The game was originally scheduled for Ice Field, but poor field conditions required the Lions to play as the home team more than 25 miles from their cozy confines.

It didn’t bother Green, a junior left-hander who needed just 84 pitches and finished with eight strikeouts against just two walks.

“He was the real deal today,” said LHS coach Brad Stoll. “Their kid wasn’t bad, but Greenie … his fastball and his breaking ball were really special tonight.”

The Lions (10-6 overall, 5-4 Sunflower League) were efficient on offense, pushing across a run in the bottom of the first on Marc Albers’ sacrifice fly before tacking on additional solo tallies in both the fifth and sixth.

Daniel Parker and John Novotny were each 2-for-3 for LHS.

“Good situational hitting on everybody’s part. So I’m pleased with that,” Stoll said.

The Lions will return to action Saturday at home against Blue Valley North. First pitch is set for noon.

“Hopefully we can stay in rhythm here and keep playing some good clean baseball and give us a chance to keep our momentum going through the end of the season,” Stoll said.
