Volunteers needed for Day of Caring

Roger Hill Volunteer Center announces the 2006 Day of Caring, from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 29. Registration forms are being accepted for individuals and groups interested in volunteering for this annual event that brings together hundreds of organizations, businesses, families and individuals to spend the morning volunteering on behalf of dozens of community organizations. Projects may include painting, cleaning, archiving, organizing and yard care on behalf of local nonprofit organizations and community members in need. Immediate volunteer needs

¢ The sixth annual Community Resource Expo will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 11. Eight community volunteers are needed to staff the event, which offers more than 50 booths providing information to individuals with disabilities or special needs. Volunteers will assist setting up the fair, directing people at the door and helping with registration of guests and service providers. ¢ The Friends of the Lawrence Public Library is seeking temporary volunteers to assist with setup for its book sale. The sale helps the library raise money to buy special books and equipment and finance literacy events and special programs. Volunteer help is needed Tuesday, March 28, through Tuesday, April 4. ¢ Jubilee Cafe seeks community volunteers to assist with food preparation, wait-staff duties, setup and cleanup for the free breakfast restaurant from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Tuesday and Friday, March 21 and 24, during spring break. The mission of Jubilee Cafe is to serve homeless and in-need neighbors with dignity and respect while enhancing self-esteem and promoting wellness among restaurant guests and volunteers. Individuals may volunteer without prior registration by arriving at the First United Methodist Church, 946 Vt., between 6 a.m. to 6:30 a.m. on any Tuesday or Friday. Groups of five or more volunteers must register in advance by calling 864-4073 or by e-mail at jubilee@ku.edu.
