First Dole Institute director on C-SPAN

Richard Norton Smith, the first permanent director of the Dole Institute of Politics, was featured in a conversation with Brian Lamb that aired Friday on C-SPAN.

Smith, a renowned presidential historian, has teamed with Grand Valley State University’s Hauenstein Center for Presidential Studies. He gives tours and takes 30 to 40 participants on a bus tour of presidential sites, national parks, historic sites and battlefields.

The tour aired as part of his conversation with Lamb.

Smith was a former director of the Gerald R. Ford Museum and Library and more recently the director of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield, Ill. Smith was director of the Dole Institute from December 2001 to November 2003.
