No storms in forecast

Sunday’s powerful storms are gone, but their effects linger. Winds in excess of 70 miles per hour rattled the city, causing widespread damage. Power is still being restored to many residents, and KU has cancelled classes, as have the Lawrence public schools New York School and Central Junior High School.

The rest of the week appears to be more mild, without any severe conditions in the offing.

The morning temperature was 40 degrees at 8:15 a.m., the humidity was 70 percent, winds were from the west southwest at 24 mph. The skies are cloudy.

Northwest winds will be strong today, coming in between 25 to 35 mph. Skies will be cloudy, with temperatures peaking at 48 degrees. There’s no precipitation in the forecast.

The overnight low will be 23 degrees, with skies clearing to partly cloudy on Tuesday. Tomorrow’s high will be 59 degrees. Wednesday’s high promises to be warmer still at 65 degrees. The rest of the week should be clear but cool, with highs in the 40s.
