Kanwaka Family and Community Education unit will meet at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Lynn Walther. Charlene Winter and Margaret Fuston will give the program “The Power of Knowledge: Preventing Death and Disability From Heart Attack and Stroke.”

Kansas 4-H and Boy Scout members who are looking for excitement and adventure during their summer break can participate in the 2006 Kansas 4-H Venturers program, June 24 to July 2, in the Glenwood Springs and Flat Tops Wilderness Area in central Colorado.

This year’s theme is “Colorado Outdoor Extreme Adventure.” The outdoor experience will involve activities such as hiking, whitewater rafting, rock climbing, camping, canoeing, kayaking, cave exploring and fishing.

A preliminary “Shakedown” June 2-4 at Rock Springs 4-H Center will give participants and adult leaders the chance to get to know each other before the trip, learn camping and outdoor skills and how to work together as a team.

The cost to attend the nine-day program and required “Shakedown” team-building experience is $500 and includes transportation, equipment fees, most meals and insurance. Campers must be 14 or older by Jan. 1, 2006, to attend. Registration is due April 1.

Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club met Feb. 13 in Building 1 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. Jessica Gibler presided during the meeting. County Council members talked about 4-H camp at Rock Springs Ranch. Members also discussed County Club Days results, Food Fare and Discovery Days. The club approved the 2006 budget. It was announced that 4-H cookbooks still were on sale. Weston Allen’s record book qualified for state competition.

The next meeting will be at 7:15 p.m. Monday at the fairgrounds.

The Stull Busy Beavers 4-H Club has been busy during the last two months. The club had monthly business meetings Jan. 9 and Feb. 13 at Stull United Methodist Church. Club members participated in County Club Days in February at West Junior High School. Several club members participated in a movie outing Feb. 25.

The club will have “Spirit Night” at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
