These are giddy times for Kansas University’s baseball players. The Jayhawks are riding an eight-game winning streak and are ranked No. 25 nationally in one poll.

But the win skein and the ranking will be in jeopardy this weekend when the Jayhawks go to Clemson, S.C., to tangle with No. 2-ranked Clemson.

Today’s series opener will be at 3 p.m., Lawrence time. Saturday’s game will be at 1 p.m. and Sunday’s at noon.

Clemson is just the beginning of a road gantlet facing the Jayhawks. Fourteen of KU’s next 15 games will be against ranked foes, and the Jayhawks’ next 10 outings will be on the road.

Kansas (14-4) won’t play at home again until Wichita State comes to Hoglund Ballpark on March 29.

Track off to NCAAs

Eight Kansas University athletes will be in Fayetteville, Ark., this weekend for the NCAA Indoor track championships.

Half of the Jayhawks’ entries will be members of the men’s distance medley relay team – Joshy Madathil, Matt Baysinger, Brandon Hodges and Benson Chesang – that owns the school record of 9:34.91.

Egon Agafonov, a sophomore from Russia, will be among the favorites in the weight throw. He’s ranked No. 1 in the nation in the event after unloading a toss of 73-03â4 at the ISU Classic.

Senior Sheldon Battle is also qualified in the weight throw as well as the shot put. He’s ranked No. 2 in the shot and No. 9 in the weight throw.

Senior Charisse Bacchus will be in the long jump for the second year in a row.

Senior Aaron Thompson qualified in the 60-meter hurdles with a school-record time of 7.84 at Saturday’s qualifier in Ames, Iowa.
