It’s nearly spring, and the skateboarders are out in downtown Lawrence.

Lawrence Police responded to a complaint about 4:10 p.m. Tuesday that two people were skateboarding on the sidewalk downtown, which is prohibited by city ordinance and punishable by a $30 fine.

When police caught up with the skaters in the 800 block of Massachusetts, one of the skaters – identified as Sean C. Smith, 19, Lawrence – started to run away, according to a report. An officer caught him in a nearby alley, and he was arrested for interfering with the duties of a police officer.

He was booked into the Douglas County Jail and later released on $100 bond.
