K.C. recruit taps KU

Kansas University’s football team is getting a huge jump on the next recruiting season, snagging another local product Monday, according to rivals.com.

Donald Stephenson, a 6-foot-6, 280-pound offensive lineman from Kansas City (Mo.) Central High, committed this week to KU. He’s already the second commitment for the 2007 class, joining Free State High tight end Christian Ballard.

Clint Bowen was Stephenson’s lead recruiter.

“I liked their coaching staff and I think it is the best place for me,” Stephenson told rivals.com.

“I wanted to study law, and they have a good school,” he said.

Stephenson now has roughly 11 months to keep his word.

Commitments are non-binding, and current high school juniors can’t sign letters of intent until February 2007.
