Public spaces available for shooting fireworks

Though fireworks are banned within Lawrence city limits, some public places are available in the county to shoot off your personal pyrotechnic displays, a city-county fire official said.

“My understanding is that locations will be provided at Lone Star Lake and Wells Overlook,” Fire Marshal Rich Barr wrote during an online chat on the Journal-World’s Web site, www.ljworld.com.

Barr said fireworks can also be legally set off on private property in the county, with the owner’s permission.

“State and Federal property around Clinton Lake are off limits and fireworks are prohibited,” Barr wrote.

“Roadways and public right of ways are also illegal to use fireworks on by state regulations.”
