Nelson-Atkins to open building in June 2007

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art will open its new building June 16, 2007, it was announced Wednesday.

The 165,000-square-foot Bloch Building is part of the museum’s $200 million expansion and renovation project. It will increase the Nelson’s space by 70 percent.

Two inaugural exhibits will open along with the new building, a collection of Impressionist and post-Impressionist works by Monet, Matisse, van Gogh and others; and a sampling of some 250 pieces from the newly acquired Hallmark Photographic Collection.
