¢ A 21-year-old woman told police she may have been raped early Saturday after being out at a club with friends.

She told police she didn’t remember the night’s events clearly but awoke at a friend’s house about 10:30 a.m. missing a Rolex watch and other items. The friend testified the woman was dropped off at the home about 5:30 a.m. by an unknown man.

The woman was examined at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Police are interviewing possible witnesses and trying to determine what happened, including whether the woman could have been drugged.

Police would not identify the bar where the group had been.

¢ A man accused of sexually abusing a young female acquaintance nearly a decade ago failed to show Monday for his trial in Douglas County District Court, prompting Judge Paula Martin to issue an arrest warrant with a $100,000 bond attached.

Previously, the man had been out of jail on a $45,000 signature bond, which means he didn’t have to post any money up front to get out of jail pending trial.

The 37-year-old man is charged with seven counts, including aggravated indecent liberties with a child and aggravated criminal sodomy.

The alleged crimes happened in 1997, when the victim was 5 years old. He was charged in 2000, but the case was dismissed in November 2002 and not filed again until May 2005.

Dist. Atty. Charles Branson said the delay was related to a family member who had taken custody of the alleged victim and was not cooperative.

The alleged victim, now age 13, was flown in from out of state in anticipation of the trial.

“It’s traumatic for the victim to have to yet again postpone this,” Branson said.

¢ A Leavenworth man was transported via LifeFlight helicopter to Kansas University Medical Center with burns on his body after his truck caught fire Saturday morning.

According to a Leavenworth County Sheriff’s Department report, the man was driving east on Santa Fe Trail toward town when he was seen with smoke pouring out of the “miscellaneous trash” in the bed of his truck. He later was seen driving west on the road.

Soon after, the driver, 51-year-old David Bowman, was sitting on the side of the road with his truck on fire.

The Kickapoo Fire Department was called for the fire. Two of the man’s dogs also were injured.
